AYYAAM-E-FATIMIYYAH ·13 Jumādā al-Ūlā — 3 Jumādā al-Thāniyah إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

Our Aim & Objectives

What we have set out to do

We exist to make the life of Sayyidah Fāṭimah (s.a.) known, understood and lived. Everything we do flows from a small number of clear objectives — and from three commitments that hold them together.

Preserving her legacy

Keeping the memory of Sayyidah Fāṭimah (s.a.) alive

To make her life known, understood and lived — not as a story told once a year, but as an example that shapes how we act.

Promoting the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.)

Making sound teaching freely available

To put the words of the Prophet (s.a.w.w.), of Sayyidah Fāṭimah (s.a.) and of the Imāms (a.s.) within easy reach of anyone who wishes to learn.

Bringing the community together

A place of belonging for every family

To gather, feed, support and include — so that nobody in our community faces a sorrow alone.

Preserving her legacy

Keeping the memory of Sayyidah Fāṭimah (s.a.) alive

To make her life known, understood and lived — not as a story told once a year, but as an example that shapes how we act.

1.To make her known

To present the life of Sayyidah Fāṭimah (s.a.) — her birth, her household, her virtues and her trials — through lectures, articles, publications and recorded media, in clear and accessible language, drawing on the Shi'a sources.

2.To preserve the commemoration

To hold programmes of mourning and remembrance during Ayyaam-e-Fatimiyyah, and to ensure these gatherings are well organised, well attended and well recorded for future generations.

3.To build an archive

To record, preserve and freely publish every lecture, majlis, marsiya and booklet for the benefit of anyone, anywhere, who wishes to learn — without registration and without charge.

4.To teach the next generation

To run children's and youth programmes in which young people learn her story, her sermon and her tasbīḥ from people they trust, in language they understand.

5.To uphold her values

To encourage truthfulness, justice, patience, modesty and service — the values she lived by — in the everyday life of our community.

Bringing the community together

A place of belonging for every family

To gather, feed, support and include — so that nobody in our community faces a sorrow alone.

6.To serve the community

To provide a place of belonging for families, young people and new arrivals — with children's programmes, youth sessions, women's gatherings and shared meals.

7.To care for those in need

To support families in difficulty quietly and with dignity, and to accept Zakat for those elements of our work that meet the eligibility criteria.

8.To work with others

To cooperate with other communities and organisations in holding joint programmes, sharing resources and avoiding duplication of effort.

What is Ayyaam-e-Fatimiyyah?

The Prophet (s.a.w.w.) passed away on 28 Ṣafar, and his daughter Fāṭimah (s.a.) followed him a short time later. The Shi'a sources preserve two widely narrated accounts regarding the length of that interval: seventy-five days (in al-Kāfī and the Amālī of Shaykh al-Ṣadūq) and ninety-five days (in Kamāl al-Dīn of Shaykh al-Ṣadūq and Biḥār al-Anwār). Both are considered reliable, and both are cited in the classical literature.

Because of these two narrations, the days of mourning — known as Ayyaam-e-Fatimiyyah — are traditionally observed from 13 Jumādā al-Ūlā to 3 Jumādā al-Thāniyah. Some communities hold programmes during both periods; others choose one. Our community holds its main programme in the period corresponding to the longer narration, and a shorter series during the other.

The days are marked with majālis, lectures, recitation of the Qur'ān, marsiya and noha, and gatherings of mourning. They are days of learning as much as of grieving: the community is encouraged to study her sermon, her sayings, and the circumstances of her final months.

In mourning her, the community renews its commitment to the values she stood for: truthfulness, justice, patience, and unwavering loyalty to the household of the Prophet (s.a.w.w.).
