Aḥādīth

What the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) said about her

Selections from the Qurʾān and from the Shi'a collections of ḥadīth — al-Kāfī, Man Lā Yaḥḍuruh al-Faqīh, the Amālī of Shaykh al-Ṣadūq, and Biḥār al-Anwār — describing the station of Sayyidah Fāṭimah az-Zahrā (s.a.).

"Fāṭimah is a part of me; whoever angers her has angered me."
— al-Kāfī, vol. 1, Kitāb al-Ḥujja; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 43; also in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim — a narration agreed upon by all schools

"Are you not pleased to be the leader of the women of the worlds?"
— al-Kāfī; Amālī of Shaykh al-Ṣadūq; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 43 — the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) to his daughter Fāṭimah (s.a.)

"O Allah, these are my Ahl al-Bayt — remove impurity from them and purify them with a thorough purification."
— al-Kāfī, Kitāb al-Ḥujja; Amālī of Shaykh al-Ṣadūq; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 35 — the Ḥadīth al-Kisāʾ (Event of the Cloak)

"Allah only desires to remove impurity from you, O People of the House, and to purify you with a thorough purification."
— Qurʾān 33:33 (Āyat al-Taṭhīr) — revealed concerning the People of the Cloak. See Tafsīr al-Qummī, Tafsīr al-Mīzān, Tafsīr Nūr al-Thaqalayn

"Indeed, We have granted you al-Kawthar."
— Qurʾān 108:1 — in the Shi'a tafsīr tradition, al-Kawthar is identified with the abundant good granted to the Prophet, among which is his daughter Fāṭimah (s.a.) and her progeny. See Tafsīr al-Mīzān, Tafsīr Nūr al-Thaqalayn

"The best of the women of the worlds are four: Khadījah, Fāṭimah, Maryam and Āsiyah."
— Amālī of Shaykh al-Ṣadūq; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 43 — narrated from Imām al-Ṣādiq (a.s.)

"Whenever the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) returned from a journey, he would begin with Fāṭimah."
— al-Kāfī; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 43 — describing the Prophet's tenderness towards his daughter

"Verily Fāṭimah guarded her chastity, so Allah forbade the Fire from her progeny."
— Amālī of Shaykh al-Ṣadūq; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 43 — narrated from Imām al-Ṣādiq (a.s.)

"Fāṭimah is a part of me; what disturbs her disturbs me, and what harms her harms me."
— al-Kāfī; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 43 — a narration transmitted through the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.)

"Fāṭimah was born in the time of Quraysh, when the Prophet was thirty-five years old."
— al-Kāfī; Man Lā Yaḥḍuruh al-Faqīh; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 43 — on the date of her birth
A note on sources. Translations given here are approximate renderings of the Arabic and are provided for the general reader. Where a narration appears in more than one collection — including the Sunni collections — this is noted. Readers are warmly encouraged to consult the original Arabic and the commentaries of the scholars, particularly the Shi'a commentaries on al-Kāfī and the tafsīr of al-Mīzān.
